What Islam says about smoking

Smoking causes death.  Knowing this, people push themselves towards death with their own hands.  According to a United Nations report on drugs, smoking kills 5 million people worldwide each year.  Even then, people are reluctant to quit smoking.  But in the Holy Qur'an it has been said, "(Do not throw yourselves into the face of destruction with your own hands.") (Surat al-Baqara, verse: 195)

Although this verse does not directly mention smoking, smoking is an act by which man pushes himself towards destruction.  Many argue that not everyone dies from smoking.  Yes, not all smokers get the first prize for smoking, but they do get the next prize.

It is universally acknowledged by the World Health Organization that smoking is one of the leading causes of various diseases, including tuberculosis and lung cancer.

In addition, there are various health risks in smoking.  Smoking reduces blood flow to the arteries just outside the skin.

As a result, the necessary oxygen does not reach the skin.  Which makes people old at a young age.  In addition, cigarette butts contain harmful chemicals that damage the elastin and collagen in human skin.  That is why the wrinkles on the skin of smokers become clear.

Cigarette nicotine causes teeth to turn white and turn yellow.  Smoking also damages the hair.  Studies have shown that long-term smokers have thinner hair than others.  Because cigarettes destroy the DNA in the hair.  In addition, the number of ink and blackheads under the eyes also increases as a result of smoking.  Excessive smoking makes hemoglobin unable to carry large amounts of oxygen.  That is why it takes more time to heal the wounds of the body.

Islamic jurists call smoking makrooh.  (Fatawa Fakihul Millat: 11/406).  Other than that, it is a well-known fact that smoking is not a good thing.  In many countries of the world, including Europe and America, smoking in public is strictly prohibited.  Because it hurts non-smokers and children, it also puts them at health risk.

The Holy Qur’an says, ‘O you who believe!  Eat of the good things that I have provided for you, and be grateful to Allah.  If you worship Him. '(Surat al-Baqara, verse: 162).  By this verse it is understood that smoking is not good for a believer.

No believer can harm another by smoking.  The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: If anyone harms another, Allaah will harm him.  (Abu Dawood, Hadith: 3635).
