Since man survives in his human life by receiving the blessings of Allah, it is our duty to give thanks to Allah while receiving them. In the Qur'an, Allah says, "Eat of the lawful and good things which Allah has given you, and be grateful for the Grace of Allah, if it is He Whom you worship." (Surat an-Nahl: 114) It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “When one of you eats, let him say (بِسْمِ الله) Bismillah and then start eating with the right hand. (Bukhari and Muslim) Then recite this prayer - اَللَارهُمََ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيِهِ وَآطْعِمْنَا خَيْراً مِّنْهُ - Pronunciation:Allahumma ba-riklana- fi-hi wa atbaimana khairam minhu. Meaning: ‘O Allah! Bless us with this, a better food day in the future. ' (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Mishkat) If one forgets to say Bismillah at the beginning of the meal, let him say (بِسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلِهِ وَ أَخِرِهِ) Bismillahi fi Awalihi wa Akhirihi. That is, the beginning and the end of eating in the name of Allah. (Tirmidhi) May Allaah grant the entire Muslim Ummah the Tawfeeq to take food in His name at the very beginning of eating. Give food blessings. Amen.
